Running Gait Analysis

If you’re a runner, or in a running based sport, it’s important to understand how you run. The biomechanics of running are highly complex and the slightest changes can result in running injuries. Conversely, making small adjustments to your running technique can also be an effective treatment for certain running injuries.

If you would like a running gait analysis, you will need to simply book an appointment with one of our Physiotherapists in Birtinya or Maroochydore. When you come to your appointment, ensure you bring your current running shoes and wear clothing you can run in for a short time.

Your running gait analysis will involve the following:

1. Discussion with your Physiotherapist about any concerns, injuries or problems you may have.
2. If you aren’t already an ongoing client, the Physiotherapist may perform some testing or further investigation regarding any problems you are having.
3. You will be asked to run on the treadmill for about 5 mins at a comfortable pace.
4. After a couple of minutes have passed, your Physiotherapist will film you running from different angles.
5. On completion of your running, your Physiotherapist will go through your running gait with you and advise if there are any significant issues.
6. You may be asked to trial any changes on a second run to see if they help with symptom relief.

Your physio will outline any areas of concern or ways to improve your symptoms at the end of your analysis. You will be asked to trial these on subsequent runs and report back to your physio for further management.

    Why Choose Us

    • Do I need a Doctor’s referral?

If you are private paying (i.e. paying for our services yourself or with your Private Health Fund) or covered by Work Cover, NDIS or a Home Care Package you DO NOT need a referral. If you are a DVA or Medicare patient, you will need a referral or EPC referral from a GP.

    • Do you have HICAPs?

We sure do! Bring your private health insurance card with you and you can claim on the spot with our HICAPs machine. This means that you will only need to pay the gap at the time of your appointment.

    • What happens in the first appointment?

Your initial appointment will involve a lengthy discussion about your concerns. Your therapist will then need to get some more information about your condition by performing some objective tests and getting some baseline measures. This enables for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan to be formed. If time permits, you will start your treatment as well in the first session!

    • Do I need to bring anything?

If you have had any scans or reports done in relation to your condition, it is really helpful if you can bring them with you. You should also bring or wear comfortable, loose clothing that allows access to the area of your body needing assessment and treatment.
